This is the year of Wayne Rooney. The goal he scored today against Tottenham was a great individual effort, but it was merely an expression in terms of the statistics that matter of his generally awesome game against Spurs.

If anything I am more pleased by the Anderson goal, though, coming as it did after a period in which Spurs outplayed United in midfield. I was just thinking: “they can’t win the league without life in the midfield,” then Anderson scored, and I think that will mean a lot to him.

Scholes was sent off, ridiculously. This after he had spent the best part of 60 minutes bewitching the Spurs back half with examples from his vast library of incisive passes.
